"Imagine a world where everyone spoke to each other using a normal rate, tone and volume of speech; a world without put-downs, profanity, and threats."

What is the GreenZone?

Enter the GreenZoneImagine living in a world where everyone spoke to each other using a normal rate, tone and volume of speech; a world without put-downs, profanity, and threats. If this is the home, school, or business setting that you are seeking, welcome to the GreenZone™.

The GreenZone is a road to civility through positive social interaction and appropriate conversation. The GreenZone concept introduces individuals to a color-coded outline of civil and uncivil behavior. In the GreenZone, individuals are led in a process of civil conversation and behavior and are called to accountability when that process is left.

The beginning of the GreenZone is when everyone who enters a particular setting that has been designated as a "green zone" agrees to abide by the expectations existing within that particular environment. These expectations are provided through training and visual observation of the existence of the zone and the process to remain within its guidelines.

Goals

  1. To introduce prevention and intervention models to cultivate respectful, productive, civil behavior, and transform disrespectful, destructive behavior.
  2. To establish GreenZone schools/classrooms, community centers, social organizations, public centers, homes, and businesses throughout communities.
  3. To model, restore, foster and sustain civility in communities across the globe.

In order to accomplish these goals, NCPCV has outlined three categories of behavior:
